Laverne Cox Compare canceling her Amazon Prime video series A clean slate to take a “dagger to (her heart).”
“I’m still processing (the cancellation),” Cox said, 52, Weekly US At the opening of the Puerto Vallarta Tryst on Friday, April 25. “We discovered a few weeks before we announced it and I cried as a baby.”
A clean slate – Which Cox created and produced with Costar George Wallace and And eagle -Int turned to Desiree (Cox), 40 returns to her hometown Alabama Fach to come out as a trans her father (Wallace) after a 23 year alienation. Coach confirm Earlier in April that Video Prime was not moving forward with a second term.
“Of course, I’ve had shows previously canceled, but I’ve never birthed a show, a scripted TV show. It’s been like it’s a baby more than any other scripted project I’ve been involved in,” he admitted Us. “So, it was just as close and it was loosely based on my life. So it was devastating, and I think it’s also devastating in the context of being, I think, I’m the first trans person, a star in a comedy. I saw that somewhere. I haven’t (confirmed that) – it’s sad, but it’s not sad in the current.
Laverne Cox is a ‘clean slate’
Video PrimeApart from “gut punch” A clean slate Curring so soon, Cox said she appreciated the viewers who really embraced the sitcom’s inclusive message.
“The fans who loved it, what I want to do is shout out the fans who have been amazing on -le. Amazing,” he said. “When I go out into the world, how many people have been watched without me encouraging them. People all over the country and around the world have watched him love him and ask for season two. I’m sorry, it’s not my fault.”
Cox said she has not yet stopped hope of finding A clean slate New streaming or TV home, as she intends to “shop elsewhere.”
“It’s really about that connection to the audience. And you can touch one person and we touched more than one person with our show,” he added. “And so that brings me so much joy. I’m personal gutters, but then I’m going out in the world and we’ve made people laugh and we’ve made people think and we’ve had people like (say), ‘That’s my mother, that’s my aunt. Oh girl.’
He went on, “People see themselves in these characters and this is a dream for an artist. So it’s a huge achievement to have an on -air TV show, too, I’m literally processing this with you. So it’s a miracle that we’ve reached the TV, and so I have so much to be grateful for … our supporters do exactly what it has.
As for what might be next in her career, Cox said Us That the experience of making a sitting comedy is convinced to undertake projects even more challenging.
“Making comedy was so free to me in other aspects of my work and in advocacy, and I just have given myself permission to let go and be funny,” he said. “Making a show with George Wallace, making the press with George Wallace, giving myself permission to be silly and lean into that and laughing along with that can exist with other things. So I mean, honestly, at the moment as an artist, as an actress, as an actress, I want to do something that really challenges me.”

And so something completely transformative. I have two films. One was published, AnimalsRe -do AnimalsThat’s animated (AM) I play a snowball, that had just been announced. We don’t know where that home is going to be. And I have another film called Result with Keanu ReevesAnd that is probably coming out later this year. “
The actress nominated for the Emmy award added that she hopes to “do something very different” after A clean slate – Ideally a project he could produce.
“I think of something that is absolutely (new), I feel I need to play a man or something. I don’t know… because people know Laverne now, and so I need to disappear into something,” he teased. “The next thing I’m doing, I want to disappear completely. So, yes, I’m looking forward to that. I don’t know what it is yet, but I want to disappear. And so the people can get into the talent again and enter the craft and acting.”
Cox announced another major career change in January when She left Prize show e! The discovery of red carpet after three years of interviewing the biggest stars in Hollywood.
“With an incredible amount of gratitude, I have decided not to return as a host of the #livefrome red carpet coverage,” Cox wrote through Instagram on January 2.
