Like most kids who grew up in the 90s and early girls, I spent an unhealthy amount of time with my friends recording comedy skits that I therefore glad we will never see the light of day. Although there is an irrational fear in the back of my mind that one day those tapes will resurface (I hope they have been burned) and ruin my personal and professional life, I still look back on those days through rose colored glasses because it’s true. it’s just me and friends exploring our creativity through offensive humor and the worst editing skills known to man. These days, I live vicariously The Whitest Children You Know because their brand of humour, while more thoughtful and sophisticated than mine as a teenager, mirrors what so many kids did with their dad’s camcorder whenever they could sneak it out of the house
The Whitest Children You Knownamed after the comedy company of the same name, ran for five seasons and never once tried to be anything it wasn’t.
Founded by and starring Trevor Moore (god rest his idiotic soul), Zach Cregger, Sam Brown, Timmy Williams, and Darren Trumeter, The Whitest Children You Know no stop in rewriting American History using powdered wigs and terrible colonial and British accents. The gang also had a lot of fun screaming at babies, filming gangster rap music videos prominently featuring Adolf Hitler as the hottest MC ever to come out of Europe, recreating Super Size Me but with Trevor Moore drinking nothing but whiskey for 30 days, and pooping one’s pants during an important meeting (a business meeting!).
Never shying away from using what I refer to as “gamer words you’d only find on 4chan,” The Whitest Children You Know explores conspiracy theories, race relations, and toilet humor with a level of immaturity that makes me foam at the mouth with envy every time I throw on an episode while working on projects around the house.
My personal favorite skit involves Trevor Moore acting as a lawyer trying to convince the jury that his client who murdered his wife and child – and is dead to rights – should be let go by convincing everyone on the jury that it was “another day. ,” which leads to complete chaos in the courtroom when it comes time to deliver a verdict. This simple premise, overworked to perfection, is what The Whitest Children You Know relating to.
There is no right way to describe The Whitest Children You Know other than calling it exactly what it is: a seamless exploration of young adult immaturity with proper studio backing. It’s clear that the series had a relatively small production budget, but the skits thrive on simple set pieces, which are elevated through over-the-top dialogue, physical comedy, or both.
A perfect example of the ingenuity found in s The Whitest Kids I Know a skit involves Trevor running at breakneck speed down the street so he can throw a packet of Kool-Aid into the Long Island Sound to turn the entire body of water red. There’s not much to it, but it’s delivered with such urgency, you can’t help but be captivated.
The Whitest Children You Know is the live version of the group chat you don’t want to miss, the home movies you made with your friends that fueled you for a month, and a glimpse of millennial shock humor in its purest form. If you want to experience what I consider to be the missing link between The Children in the Hall a I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinsonyou’ll feel right at home plowing through all five seasons of The Whitest Children You Know.
The sad reality we have to live with is the comedy company The Whitest Kids U’ Know we all know and love has officially dissolved after Trevor Moore’s untimely death in 2021. While the company’s final project, Marchhas seen a 2024 Tribeca Film Festival release, and features Moore’s final contributions before his fatal fall from his home balcony, we’ll likely never see any new material under the Whitest Kids U’ Know banner outside of any footage of the unreleased series if so. something that was never to resurface.
