The clash between Melbourne Renegades i Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League 2024-25 went to his prime as Jacob Bethell had a special opportunity for the home fans to enjoy and put their team in a commanding position against the Strikers.
Bethell came to the crease when the Strikers invited the home side to bat first after winning the toss. After the opener Jake Fraser McGurk i Tim Seifert were dismissed early, the onus of taking the Renegades to a respectable total fell to Bethell and Josh Brown. The two batsmen after some struggle, managed to sail through the Renegades with a total of 80 runs in the 11th over.
Seeing both batsmen on set, the Strikers skipper opted to test both with some leg-spin and Cameron Boyce was called to bowl the 11th. Boyce restricted the Renegades batsman to 4 runs but bowled a loose fifth delivery to Bethell. The middle order batsman wasted no time in punishing the bowler and hit it towards the leg side for a lofty 96 meters six. It was the first and only six of Bethell’s innings as he was dismissed later having scored 21 runs off 21 balls.

The Renegades had a disappointing game with the bat as they were severely restricted by the Strikers’ bowling line-up. Brown was the only Renegades batsman to score some runs and played a crucial role in setting up the Renegades innings. Henry Thornton had a remarkable game with the bowl as he dismissed 3 Renegades batsmen and gave away just 22 runs in his spell of 4 overs. Notable contributions of Lloyd Pope i Brendan Doggett he also helped the Strikers restrict the home side to 142/9 in 20 overs.
