The Marvel star, 53, shared his gratitude through a touching sentiment Instagram post uploaded on Wednesday, January 1 as he reflects on the snowplow accident that nearly killed him two years ago.
Renner was rushed to the hospital and later broke more than 30 bones crushed by a snow plow at his home in Nevada on New Year’s Day in 2023. In the caption of the Instagram post, the actor commemorated the two-year anniversary of the near-fatal incident.
“Happy New Year to you all…. Singing in my second “ReBirthday” today I send my love, respect, and gratitude to the army of people it took to put me back together again,” he wrote.
“Thank you to every nurse, doctor, first responder … I literally owe my life to you. All my heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who jumped to my aid and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on New Year’s morning on icy asphalt. I’m sorry for all the gruesome images I imprinted on you all (I’ll spare you all the meat-grinding images)….”
He continued: “My gratitude list is very long…. With the amount of love and prayers that came in from you around the world (all of them needed), my family never left my side, with some divine intervention, a little luck and a whole lot of miracles.. .I’m standing strong again. More Open. More Kind. More Related. And f-king blessed my next step, to take MY NEXT breath. I thank you with every fiber and cell in my body. I love you ALL ❤️. #MyNextBreath.”
Alongside the lengthy caption, Renner shared a post of himself in a hospital bed surrounded by doctors, nurses and hospital staff.
The Crash January 2023 saw the actor crushed by a PistenBully, a snow removal vehicle weighing over 14,330 pounds, near his home while clearing snow with his nephew.
As a result of the accident, Renner suffered more than 38 broken bones, including six broken ribs in 14 places, a broken tibia and a collapsed lung.
“I remember every bump,” he said Men’s Health in July 2024. “I remember my head cracking on it and it was weighing on me – it’s just how you think it would feel. An immovable object and a crushing force, and something has to give. But thank God it didn’t give my skull full.”
