Rosie O’Donnell settling in her new life in Ireland with her family.
“We chose Ireland and we didn’t really know where to go,” O’Donnell told us Weekly only about her new homeland when discussing her documentary Hulu Special Hope of Release: Power of Service Dogs for Children with Autism. “And someone said that Dalkey and I were finding a house on -lein who was Glengarry. But when the people who helped us move in there, there was a mold.”
O’Donnell shared that after a “black mold” was found in their home, she had to rethink their living situation for her family’s health. (O’Donnell moved to Ireland with her 12 -year -old, Clay, who have autism.)
“We couldn’t move there, especially with an autistic child who has some allergy issues,” he explained. “And so we ended howth.”
Arriving at Howth, O’Donnell and Clay stayed in Airbnb, which was a short -term solution. Once their time was up there, O’Donnell and Clay officially settled in Dublin and couldn’t be happier.
“There’s a great, great school there. And Clay has done very well. And they were very welcoming,” the actress remembered. “And I love the small town, the small village. It’s in the heart of Dublin, but it’s still a village where you know the grocery name and you know the name of the funders. People are unbearable in a way that shakes me every day.”
O’Donnell announced last month she moved to Ireland and was in the process of having her citizenship. The former talking show host is not the only star and a list that has recently relocated across the pool, either. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Relocated to the English countryside Last year. O’Donnell admitted to Us she has not been in contact with degeneres, 67, and has been “shocked” by her decision to leave the US
“I’ve never known Ellen to say anything political in her life so I was surprised to read that she had left because President Trump. Like, that surprised me, really, ”said O’Donnell Us. I’ve been a political person all my life, no better or worse, it’s a different way to be in the world. I was very clear about why I was leaving, and I don’t think it was surprising to anyone. We’re not in each other really, and it’s been a kind of awkward but you know what? I wish her the best. I wish she had peace and love in her life and she is right. “
Although it does not have the strongest relationship with degeneres, O’Donnell has no “malice” towards it at all.
“I don’t want to fight against another gay woman. It’s not like we’re anonymous opposing each other. We’re very different people. We’ve had some things in the past that we’ve never resolved. Us. “I think there is plenty of space in the world for all gay comedians, and we all need to stick together because gay people are the next group to be threatened. And the way they attack trans people is absolutely shocking. If people don’t understand that they are an essential part of the Lbgtqia+community, that dragging because we protect our own, especially the fragile.”
While O’Donnell was putting down in a new country, she admitted losing her children and adult friends who stay in the United States. Before moving, O’Donnell would constantly have group phone conversations with his friends. Now, she hasn’t been able to jump on those valuable calls as much as she likes.
“It’s been very difficult because of the time zone for me to get involved in. “I call my children, I’m the face of my children. I have two best friends, Junie and Jackie, since I (was) 3 years old. They really like sisters. And I’m talking to them all the time. I have two brothers I’m very close to. I talk to them all the time.”
Despite the loss of her family, O’Donnell said she does not regret her decision to move.
“I know myself sufficiently to know that this was something I needed to do for the safety and caution of myself and my non -binary child,” he said.
As well as focusing on Clay’s mental health, O’Donnell ensures that Clay lives the best life they can. O’Donnell and Clay’s journey is being addressed at Hulu’s Hope of release, A documentary focusing on the impact that dogs have on families affected by autism. O’Donnell was grateful to use its platform to shed light on the sale of the venture.
“It’s been a tough but beautiful journey really,” O’Donnell told UsRemembering her immediate response to Clay’s diagnosis. “I knew very much Mother’s courage. There was familiarity there and there was something that felt familiar to me. “
