Many women arrested on Monday were pregnant and others recently gave birth.
Repression is part of a government plan announced last year about deportation up to 10,000 unregistered migrants per week to avoid migration from neighboring Haiti.
However, the government of President Luis Abinader is criticized for the cruel treatment of Haitian migrants, as many are escaping from violence in the gang and poverty in the Port-O-Prince capital.
The Immigration Department said women “offered a decent treatment” after delivery to the detention center, where their biometric data and fingerprints were recorded.
The Haitian woman, who accompanied her pregnant girlfriend to the hospital, said the government’s actions would lead to uncertainty for pregnant women who need care.
“When a woman gave birth today, they can’t accept her today because they don’t know what will happen. And if she has a section, they don’t know what happens because there will never be a doctor to help when something happens in the road, with a child or with her,” she said.
Authorities said women would receive medical treatment and any undocumented mothers will be repatched.
Many Haitians crossed the common border with the Dominican Republic to avoid escalation of violence and hunger, sometimes in several freight loads a day.
To squeeze these figures, the Dominican Republic deported more than 80,000 people in Haiti in the first three months of this year, reports AFP Avenage Agency.
Presidential government, Abinader, previously expressed his disappointment with the inability of the international community to restore stability in Haiti.
