Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, died at the age of 88, the Vatican said.
“This morning at 07:35 local time (05:35 GMT) Bishop Rome, Francis, returned to his father’s house,” Cardinal Kevin Farral said in a statement published on a telegram.
His death comes after he appeared on St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican to wish the “Happy Easter” to thousands of believers.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergolio in Argentina, was discharged from the hospital last month after five weeks of treatment for infection that led to double pneumonia.

They will be summoned to the Vatican meeting, after which the conclave as a known election.
The Pope has struggled with his health in recent months, having spent five weeks at the pneumonia hospital in both lungs.
During his stay in the hospital, he presented “two very critical episodes” where his “life was in danger”, according to one of his doctors.
Throughout his life, he suffered a number of health problems, including some of his lungs, deleted at the age of 21, which made it more prone to infections.
