US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset shared information about US air strikes in Yemen’s second private group in Signal, US partner BBC CBS confirmed with sources familiar with reports.
The messages sent on March 15 were included in flight schedules for US wool F/A-18, which hit Huti’s purposes. The group included the wife of HeGSET, brother and personal lawyer.
Developments come a month after the existence of a separate signal group, which discussed secret information about the US hostilities.
In a statement to The New York Times, which first reported on the second group, the White House stated that no classified information was disseminated.
HEGSET’s wife, Jennifer, a former Fox News producer and does not hold an official position in the Pentagon. Earlier, Hegset was criticized that he reportedly included his wife at a meeting with foreign leaders.
His brother Phil and personal lawyer Tim Parlotore, both hold positions in the Ministry of Defense. But it is unclear why any of the three will require advanced warnings about the sensitive strike plans.
Unlike the first signal group, the second – entitled “Protect | Team – was created by HegSeth, reports the New York Times.
The existence of the previous signal group was discovered by Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of the Atlantic magazine, which was accidentally included in it. Officials have similarly used this group to discuss information in Yemen.
The White House denied that classified information was considered in this group, although HEGSET critics, including former US defense officials, is a matter. It is said that the discussion of such information in the signal groups may be threatened by the US officer who performs hostilities.
The existence of the second signal group is the last dispute that surrounds the Pentagon head, which this year controls the $ 892 billion budget (670 billion pounds).
Last week, Hegset fired three best officials for “unauthorized disclosure” – the prosecution stated “unreasonable”.
In Politico, published on Sunday, John Uliot, a former Pentagon spokesman who resigned last week, wrote that the department was in “General Chaos”.
“Dysfunction is now the main distraction for the president, which deserves the best from its senior leadership,” Uliot added.
However, in a statement about X, Sean Punel, the current Pentagon spokesman, accused of “Trump’s hatred” of “destroying those who committed the Presidential agenda”.
He responded to the White House, saying that “there was no united information in any chat.”
Washington says his strike in Yemen is a punishment for Huti’s attacks on cargo ships moving through the Red Sea, a critical water road for international trade.
