Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of violating the 30-hour “Easter truce” announced by the Russian president on Saturday.
President of Ukrainian Valodimir Zelensky claimed the front of Ukraine has suffered more than 46 Russian attacks since the beginning of the day on Sunday. BBC did not independently confirmed these figures.
In response, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it “pushed” the attempt of Ukraine’s attacks and accused Kiev of launching hundreds of drones and shells, state media sources reported.
On Saturday, Putin said that on Saturday to 22:00 to 22:00 to 22:00 (north in Moscow) there would be the end of all hostilities. Kyiv said it would also follow.
“During this period, I will order to stop all hostilities,” Putin said in his ad.
“We believe that the Ukrainian side will follow our example. At the same time, our troops should be prepared to repel the possible violations of the enemy’s truce and provocation, any of his aggressive actions.”
However, Zelensky stated that Ukraine saw hundreds of attacks and drones on Sunday, and that Putin’s Declaration had a “PR”.
Zelensky added that Vladimir Putin’s words were “empty” and he accused the Kremlin of trying to create a “general impression of ceasefire”.
“This Easter has clearly demonstrated that the only source of this war and the cause it is on is Russia,” the President said on Sunday.
The Russian Ministry of Defense insisted that his troops “strictly watched the fire”.
Suddenly, the Easter truce statement happened shortly after that US President Donald Trump threatened to “take a pass” by brokers further.
Ukraine said it would be ready to extend the truce, which should end at midnight today (22:00 BST).
There were ambiguous reactions about a 30-hour truce from Ukrainians who attended Easter morning services in Kiev and on Sunday occupied by the Russian city of Donetsk.
“I do not think that this person (Putin) is relevant to humanity,” said 45-year-old lawyer Elena Parich.
Meanwhile, in Donetsk, where most of the city has been under Russian control since 2014, residents have expressed a similar distrust that Zelensky would adhere to the ceasefire.
“I watched his reaction (Zelensky) very closely,” said Vladimir, who visited the Easter morning service in Donetsk. “There was nothing in the ceasefire … Just some vague statements, giving no confidence that we will not be fired.”
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full -scale invasion of Ukraine. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people – the vast majority of soldiers – were killed or injured on all sides.
The US is talking directly to Russia as part of its efforts to end the war, but tried to make significant progress.
Last month, Moscow came up with a long list of conditions in response to a complete and unconditional ceasefire, which was agreed by the US and Ukraine.
On Friday, Secretary of State Mark Rubio said the United States did not “continue these efforts for months and months” because he had “other priorities to focus on.”
“We need to determine very quickly – and I am talking about a few days – no matter what,” he added.
“If this does not happen, we are just going to move on.”
