After winning the launch, Shubman Gill mentioned that the pitch was good and that the lack of grass could cause cracks to develop. Gill emphasized the importance of focusing on the present instead of living on past results. He also expressed his hope that Kagiso Rabada would return in about ten days.
“First we will make a bowl. It is very hot. The wicket looks great. If you do not keep a lot of grass, it would go well. Things have gone well. We do not think much about the past. It’s about presenting -the day is needed. It takes a couple of weeks for the team to stick. We will go with the same team. We hope that Rabada will return in ten days,” Gill said.
Axar Patel admitted that he would also have preferred a bowl first because of the intense heat, which he felt that he could wear the bowls under the sun. He said that the team focused on continuous improvement and that the atmosphere of the locker room has remained positive.
“I also wanted to make a field. I confused myself, because it was very hot. I was a bit skeptical due to the climate. The bowls could be tired under the sun. We would try to score well and try to defend. We wanted a good start. We wanted to focus on the process,” Patel said.
“We focus on our process and execution. We continue to talk about improvements. The dressing room atmosphere has been good. It’s important to be clear in your ideas. We have given them clear roles. You may sometimes be successful and sometimes you won’t get it. Jake is not playing.”
