The ex-unified heavy heavy weight champion, Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev (36-5-1, 30 kos), ended his 16-year-old professional career in a positive note, marking a technical tie of the seventh round about Artur Mann (22-5, 13 kos) on Friday night at the Yunost Arena in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
Fighting in front of his crowd of his hometown, the 42 -year -old Kovalev landed a beautiful left left combination to the right to put Mann on the canvas. After Kazakhstan, Mann, returned to his feet, his corner chose to stop the fight. His legs were being damaged after returning to go up and it would not have been a good idea to leave it.
Previously in the fight, Kovalev had demolished Mann with a short hook in the second round. Mann was very injured after returning to go up, but resisted the storm after kicking Kovalev. In the last seconds of the round, Mann went down for the second time, but the referee ruled him. It seemed that it could have been a legitimate defeat.
In round and four rounds, Mann fought well, labeling Kovalev with short punches sometimes and spending energy. Mann suffered a cut on his right eye in the third round of leaving -hit with repeated Sergey rigid strokes.
“The Krusher” seemed visibly tired of the energy he had spent in the second round. However, Mann could not take advantage of his fatigue due to his low production of punches. He was constantly moving forward but did not throw, and allowed Kovalev to land punches and punches at will. Mann had the power, but he did not let go of his shots.
Kovalev won his second wind at the sixth and increased his punching production considerably. He tagged Mann with many punches in this round and could say that the struggle would not last long if Artur did not start throwing something.
This Kovalev’s performance can give the second thought about retirement because he was well in this struggle compared to some of his recent. However, he did not have to worry about anything to return to him because Mann was like a fist bag. Heavy weight division is weak. Therefore, there is a possibility that Kovalev will work on a title.
Its age could be an obstacle, because you cannot afford to spend years trying to put yourself in a position to fight for a world title. In addition, the money did not change for life by Kovalev, unless Turki Alralikh became interested in financing a struggle between him and one of the champions.
