Chinese braces for strong winds with millions ordered to stay indoors

Workers told hurrying home, classes were suspended, and outdoor activities were canceled as the North Chinese braces for extreme winds this weekend.

Millions have called for stay indoors, some state -owned media warning that people weighing less than 50 kg (110 pounds) can be “easily blown up”.

It is expected that the wind, which reaches 150 km / h (93 km / h), replace Beijing, Tianjin and other parts of the Hebei region from Friday to Sunday, when the cold whirlwind moves to the southeast of Mongolia.

For the first time in a decade, Beijing issued an orange warning for the Gales-Second in the quadrilateral weather prevention system.

Strong winds contained from Mongolia are not uncommon, especially at this time of year. But it is expected that the upcoming wind will be stronger than all that saw the area over the years.

It is expected that the temperature in Beijing will decrease by 13 degrees Celsius within 24 hours, when the strongest winds were affected on Saturday, the authorities said.

“This strong wind is stunning, lasts for a long time, affects the wide area and very catastrophic,” said the Beijing Meteorological Service.

China measures wind speed with a scale that passes from level 1 to 17. Level 11 of the wind, according to the meteorological administration of China, can cause “serious damage”, and the wind of 12 levels brings “extraordinary destruction”.

The winds are expected this weekend to vary from level 11 to 13.

Several sports competitions, scheduled for the weekend, were suspended, including the world’s first humanoid robot, a half -free, which will now take place on April 19.

Parks and tourist attractions were closed because the authorities ordered the residents to avoid active outdoor action, and the construction work and train services were suspended.

Thousands of trees in the city were strengthened or trimmed to prevent their fall.

Officials warn people to avoid entering the mountains and forests, where the gusts are expected to be particularly strong.

As the residents descend, social media users find humor in their weekend plans.

“This wind is so smart that it starts on Friday night and ends on Sunday without breaking the work on Monday,” the Weibo user said.

The hashtags about strong wind and warning that those who weigh less than 50 kg may be changed, a tendency in Chinese social media. One Weibo user stopped: “I eat so much all the time, just on this day.”

Beijing also issued a warning about forest fires and forbade people to take fires outdoors.

It is expected that the wind will start to weaken on Sunday night.
