Bill gates‘Children will earn only a small proportion of his fortune.
The Microsoft Cofounder is worth an estimated $ 101.2 billion, according to Morbelbut will leave “less than 1%” of that to his three children, Jennifer28, Rory25, and Female22.
“My children had great upbringing and education, but less than 1% of the total wealth because I decided that it would not favor them,” explained Gates during the appearance of March 29 on the “Calculated out with Raj Shamani” podcast.
He continued, “It’s not a lineage. I don’t ask them to run Microsoft. I want to give them the chance to get their own earnings and success. You know, be significant and not shadowed by the incredible luck and the good fortune I had.”
“Different families see that differently,” Gates, 69, reasoned. “I think the people who have made a fate of technology are less dynastic … they will even take their capital and give that a lot of that.”
Host Raj Shamani He then asked if his children have ever questioned why they will not receive a larger percentage of his fortune.
“You don’t want your children to ever be confused about your support and love for them,” Gates responded. “I think early explains your philosophy, you’re going to treat them all equally and you’re going to give them incredible opportunities … but the highest call for these resources is to go back to the most needy through the foundation.”
“They have seen the success of the foundation, they are delighted,” he added, referring to the Gates Foundation, the charity he launched in 2000 with a former wife Melinda gates.
Bill and Melinda went public with their split in May 2021.
“After a lot of thinking and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our wedding,” they wrote in a joint statement. “Over the past 27 years, we have raised three amazing children and built a foundation that works around the world to enable everyone to live healthy, productive lives.”
The statement concluded: “We continue to share a belief in that mission and we will continue our work together in the foundation, but we no longer believe that we can grow together as a couple in this next stage of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to inform this new life.”
The pair divorce was completed in August 2021. Since then Melinda has opened for what led to the end of their marriage.
“It was not one second or one specific thing that happened,” he told Morning CBS In March 2022. “A point came in time where there was enough there I realized that it wasn’t healthy, and we can’t trust what we had.”
Bill pressed on Melinda’s comments two months later, sharing on Today.
