The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) directed by Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK) assumed Punjab Kings (PBKs) by Shreyas Iyer (PBKs) in the 22nd Premier League 2025 game (IPL 2025) on Tuesday, April 8.
The Chennai Super Kings team faced the defeat in the game against the Punjab Kings team by 18 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.

Bowling first in the game, CSK had a poor departure, as they ended up filtering 219 runs. They managed to stop most of the PBKs batters, but were demolished by Priyansh Arya (103) and Shashank Singh (52*).
Pursuing the goal, Devon Conway reached a good fifty, but he later retired to the entrances. Shivam Dube also came in with good races as Mrs. Dhoni played a cameo. However, their efforts were not enough and the CSK was restricted to 201/5.
Speaking after the game, Ruturaj Gaikwad was absolutely furious at the bad efforts of his team and said:
“I think the last four games, the only point of difference (the field is the difference). It has been critical. The catches we have been falling, Batsman himself scoring 15.20, 30 runs.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad also provided a rich praise to Priyansh Arya, but blamed the bad show of his loss. Said:
“Sometimes you have to appreciate it. Priyansh played well. Lowering high risk and it went well. We were receiving doctors at regular intervals, but they continued their impetus. 10-15 minor tracks would have helped us. But these are capture falls.”
Devon is more than a ball timer: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad said they won what they wanted from the initial duo of Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, as they provided a good start to the team. Said:
“It was place in the battle perspective. Two of our best batters (Rachin and Conway) that play Pace went to the top of the order. They had a good game. Many positives in the battles department.”
When asked about the decision to retire from Devon Conway, he said that the opening whisk is more than a ball timer and they needed someone like Jadja to have a ability to hit. Said:
“Today we were two three times away, Devon is more than a ball timer. Very useful at the top of the order. Jaddu, his role is completely different, you know that the Batsmen struggled (in Conway he retired). We waited for him to change it and then change when we believe it was needed.”

How did CSK perform in the previous IPL party against PBKs?
In the previous match against Kings Punjab at the IPL, Chennai Super Kings offered a good performance to Dharamsala to seal a 28 victory.
After being sent to Bat, CSK did not publish great runs on the board, as the pitch was not easy to beat. They had a good power, but just after that, they lost their fast doctors and reduced to 75/4.
However, the brilliant 43 of 26 ravindra Jadja bumps maintained the tickets together and a crucial contribution of others pushed CSK to a competitive total of 167/9.
