Rohit Sharma approaches at the end of his mandate of white ball captaincy, and the attention has moved to those who could take care of the Indian leadership reins in a limited cricket. Kapil Dev, legendary, said that there are many contestants for the post, but he supported Hardik Pandya to lead the national team of Cricket.
Hardik Pandya was expected that Rohit Sharma as Captain T20i of India after the victory of the T20 2024 World Cup. However, selectors chose Suryakumar Yadav to lead the side. Axar Patel was appointed Vice-Capitan by the recent T20I series against England, despite the fact that Pandya was part of the workforce.

In a conversation with Mykhel, Kapil Dev shared his personal choice for the next limited captain of India. The worldwide winner of the World Cup supported Hardik Pandya for the paper, saying that it is the best option among various strong contenders.
“For me, Hardik Pandya is my white ball captain. There are a lot of contestants for the publication, but Pandya is my option,” said Kapil Dev during a PGTI Pro-AM event on the great Nouida on Saturday, April 5.

Kapil Dev praised all its growth and maturity in recent years. He said that Pandya’s age and leadership qualities make him a strong candidate to guide the team through the upcoming ICC tournaments, adding that it is difficult to look beyond him because of the role of captaincy.
“Pandya is relatively young and can build a team around it for the upcoming ICC events,” Kapil said.
Hardik was the Deputy of Rohit Sharma during the T20 2024 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. He was also the Vice-Capitan during the World Cup of Hate of 2023, but had to retire from the tournament in the middle of his injury. Pandya is currently in the position of the Vice-Capitan in any format.
India will need multiple captains for three formats: Kapil Dev
The former Indian Captain also said that India is unlikely to have a single captain among the three formats. He mentioned that while Hardik Pandya is his favorite choice for white ball leadership, his absence from the test cricket means that India will need different captains for each format.
“Ideally, Hardik should also play a test cricket and, since it does not play, India will need several captains for the three formats,” he said.
The Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, started their IPL 2025 season with a four -wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings. He scored 11 of 17 balls against Gujarat Titans and added 28 of 16 balls against Lucknow Super Giants. Pandya took eight doctors at an average of 9.38, with better figures of 5/36.
