Parlalee’s robbery at Gunpoint pushed them to the success of country singing

In 2010, country band Bampalee Proving theft that changed the course of their career – and almost ended the life of their drummer.

Members Matt Thomas. Scott Thomas. Barry Knox and Josh McSwain recently sat down with Weekly US To recount the dreaded night and share how it has pushed them to be better than ever.

The new band wrapped in 2010 in South Carolina when the night took a while for the worse. “Barry and Josh were at the club, and I’m getting a knock on the door thinking it’s Barry and Josh, but it’s two men in bandanas with a gun to my head,” said vocalist Matt Us.

The group was packing their RV when Matt came to him by whom he believed were members of his band. Instead, he found himself face to face with the armed thieves of Dytavis Hinton and Demorrio Burris.

Matt immediately called for help from his brother Scott, the band’s drummer and a licensed hidden carrier. “There was a gun fight in the RV, and he took care of the two men,” Matt shared. Burris was killed during the exchange, and Hinton was later arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, Scott didn’t make him out of the unharmed gun fight – he was shot three times and almost lost his life. “He almost died in the RV, had a 5 per cent chance to live and had to be transported by plane,” Matt remembered. Scott spent 40 days in hospital, and 10 were spent in a coma.

“We played a show on a Monday night in a small club just to practice, to get our chops up,” Matt shared, explaining that the group was incredibly close to a record deal after 10 years in the industry. “We had this opportunity on the horizon, and then these men completely derailed the ship.”

Despite it all, they all stepped in to help Scott with rehabilitation. After waking up from his coma, the first words he spoke were, “We play no more s *** house clubs.” He was later released from hospital, and the group found themselves more motivated than ever. “Four months later, (us) came to Nashville and got us a record deal,” said Matt. “We never had one up. We never had a leg up.”

The star of the rising country, Chase Matthew, does not usually get nervous before shows, with one exception: if he plays the Grand Ole Opry. “Most of the time, if I have the Jitters, it’s’ because I’m ready,” Matthew, 27, told us weekly. “As, I want to go. “Only the hope of getting that record deal kept us to take motivation,” added Scott.

All members share the background of a blue collar, and it is reflected in their ethic work. The group has also received support from a number of family members, including Scott and Matt’s mother, who took out a second mortgage to help them pay their studio staff.

Their statement in 2013 “Carolina” number 1 on Billboard’s AirPlay chart, and members agreed that Feat would not have been possible without the support of those around them. “It all made us worth it for the first time,” admitted the guitarist.

To date, Parmalee has accumulated over 2.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Even in the midst of their success, they have always been true to their humble beginnings and emphasized the role that networking has played in their journey. They have had encounters with some of the industry’s biggest stars over the years as a result.
