; formed friendship with an actor Val Kilmer Before they took things to the next level in the 1980s. Although the two A-Listers were not in Endgame, there was no drama between them that led to breakdown. In fact Cher and Kilmer stayed friends after going their ways apart – and she was one of the stars to pay tribute to him when he died in 2025.

Things between Cher and Kilmer started as all good relationships do, with friendship. One of Cher Kilmer’s friends invited the singer’s birthday party back in the day, and that’s where they were crossing first trails.
“She said, ‘I invited this guy and I think either you or my friend who is editor will like it,'” said Cher People In 2021. She and Kilmer formed a bond quickly.
“We came friends because we laughed at the same things regularly,” he remembered. “He would sleep over and he was just friendship (at first). That took a long time. Well, it was probably not a long time really.”

“Looking, I was in love madly with Val Kilmer, and left,” he remembered Howard Stern Show in November 2024. “Because sometimes you are just so long are you supposed to stay with someone for so long.”
Besides Kilmer calls him away, there are not much details about why they split.
“Our sense of humor, and what we would suffer from each other, was more than I think I ever had with any other guy,” said Cher People. “He would go away and do his own thing and you had to be ready. And it was so beautiful. He went crazy in love and laughed hysterically to respect each other’s ability.”
She also remembered him as “creative” and “brave”.
“It may also be a brat but you forgive him. You forgive him (for) everything,” he added. “Even when I was angry, it was still a joy. If he called, it wouldn’t matter where I was, I would go.”

“Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves,” she wrote. “Cher traded intoxicating glamor and I, a boy in the valley, fell under his spell.”
Kilmer added, “We had a wild journey, and although we would eventually have deviated in different directions, our spirit remained united.”
Cher remembered Kilmer Following his death at the age of 65 in April 2025. (Kilmer was Been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but was declared free of cancer in 2016. He died of pneumonia.)
