Zambians are protesting in Lusak on the statement of rape reports

In the capital of Zambia, Lusaka, there was a protest march against the recent number of reports of men who raped children.

Over the past two months, Zambians have been shocked by several cases of rape children, some of whom have led to death.

Among the most horrible reports was that the father allegedly raped his seven -year -old daughter when she was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment.

There were also reports of the age of five, allegedly raped by a gang of four men, and the other father was imprisoned for rape and infection with the age of genital warts transmitted by sexually.

The Minister of Justice Zambia Princess Kasun-Zul called for the castration of children’s rapists as an extraordinary measure to restrain the perpetrators and protect children from abuse.

“How low can we go as a nation? How low can we go as a society? What is happening, it is ill. Now it is legislation – it depends on us as Zambians questioning why our morality has died,” she said recently in parliament.

Following the reports on Thursday, civil society organization, music and individuals held a protest, calling on the government to change the law on introducing more severe punishment for children’s rapists.

In the petition transmitted by Vice President Mutal Nalumga, they demanded that those who were accused of raping children be bail.

In response, Nalmumnga stated that this question concerns everyone and that Zambians should take a position.

The musician who participated in the protest march told the BBC that “we need to create a safe situation for our children.”

Daputsa Nkhata-Zulu, also known as Sista D, added that children’s rapists should be stabbed “for the safety of children, as well as deprive them of the pride of male life because they do not deserve it.”

In the last three months of 2024, Zambia has recorded more than 10,000 cases based on gender violence (GBV) with the participation of children, reports Zambia’s National Corporation. Mostly they were in the capital, Lusak.

Last year, more than 32,000 people received consultations on GBV, GBV’s annual data analysis reports.
