The governing Junta Guinea pardoned former military leader Musi Dadis Kamara, less than a year in 20 years of punishment for crimes against humanity associated with one of the country’s worst developments.
The decree read on state television said that the pardon was provided for health reasons.
In 2009, the troops under his command opened fire during the rally, calling for a return to civilian administration, killed by more than 150 people. Dozens of women were also raped.
The mosquito captured power when the long -standing president Lanson Conte died in 2008. He fled after attempting to assassinate shortly after the massacre, but returned in 2022 to withstand justice, insisting that he was innocent.
The 61st mosquito was a virtually unknown army captain when he headed the coup. In July 2024, he was sentenced together with seven military commanders after a 22-month trial.
His pardon happens as a result of the announcement at the beginning of the week that the current military government intends to pay compensation to the victims of the massacre – which mosquito and other convicts were ordered to cover.
According to Info Justice, a web -resite that reports on international justice, calculating payments:
The massacre took place in September 2009, when tens of thousands gathered at the stadium in the capital, Konokri, so as not to press the mosquito, so as not to stand in the presidential election.
Many were shot dead, stabbed, beaten or crushed in a stamp when security forces fired tears and charged with the stadium. At least 109 girls and women were raped.
It is unclear what kind of health problems the mosquito faces. His younger brother Jean Dadis Kamara said AFP: “Everyone is happy. We thank the president.”
When the mosquito escaped from Guinea after being shot dead, he was treated for six weeks in Morocco before living in Burkin -fos for 12 years.
His deputy continued to organize elections in 2010, which introduced a decade of civilian administration, which led Alpha Conde to power as president.
In September 2021, he was overthrown in a coup after protests over his conflicting third term.
