WIRED’s 2024 Quiz: From AI Slop to Human Brain Implants

2024 was another year defined by Generative AIwith software features put in the hands of millions of people around the world and inevitably integrated into popular services, such as Google search. While some AI tools, such as ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode and NotebookLM by GoogleThey were delightful to interact with, the prevailing narrative remained about the inherent flaws of the technology, with rampant hallucinations and continued questions about proper data formation.

I mean, who could forget Shrimp Jesus and other surreal, AI-generated images spreading across Facebook? Or when AI Overviews told Google users that it was okay to eat rocks in moderation put the glue on the pizza? It was a year where weird AI-generated content was felt everywhere.

Here at WIRED, 2024 was full of juicy investigations, deep conversationsand in-depth gadget reviews. This quiz that looks at our journalism throughout the year captures just a small part of all the hard work and great pieces from my colleagues.
