Petyar was charged with involvement in the singer’s death

Local media reports that in Argentina, five people have been charged with involvement in the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne.

The 31-year-old star died on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires.

Hotel manager Gilda Martin and hotel employee Esteban Grassi, as well as Roger Nores, who was reportedly a friend of Payne’s, were charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office.

Brian Pais and Ezequiel Pereira, who reportedly worked at the hotel, were charged with drug delivery.

The judge ordered the detention of two of the five defendants, according to the Argentinian news site Infobae.

The couple, whose names have not been released, were summoned to court within 24 business hours, Infobae added.

The BBC has contacted the prosecutor’s office for comment.

Argentine authorities are investigating Payne’s final days at the CasaSur hotel.

It was announced earlier in November Three people were charged in his death but their names were not mentioned then.

Speaking to US celebrity news outlet TMZ after Payne’s death, Roger Nores said he was a “very good friend” of the singer and they had spent time together on the day of the star’s death.

He said Payne “seemed playful and happy” when he left him about an hour before the musician fell from the balcony.

After Payne’s death, police found substances in his hotel room, along with items and furniture that had been damaged.

It was previously reported that hotel staff called 911 twice to report that a guest had taken “too much drugs and alcohol” and was “breaking up the whole room”.

In November, prosecutors said toxicology tests revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in Payne’s system.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was “multiple trauma” and “internal and external haemorrhage” as a result of a fall from a hotel balcony.

According to prosecutors, medical reports also suggested that Payne may have fallen into a state of semi-consciousness or total unconsciousness.

Prosecutors said this ruled out the possibility that Payne acted consciously or voluntarily, and they concluded that the singer did not know what he was doing and was not aware of his actions.

Payne became one of the biggest names in pop music after appearing on The X Factor and rising to fame with boy band One Direction in the 2010s before the band went on indefinite hiatus in January 2016.

A singer a funeral took place in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, last month.

His former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik were among the mourners, along with Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy and his ex-partner Cheryl, with whom he has a son.
