The Battlestar Galactica Rebooted about God a bit as a figure that the colons and a handful of human beings worship him as a deity that is different from Kobol lords. This figure seemed as an abstract belief for much of the show until I finally ended the series more or less confirmed that this higher figure was real and some of our characters had been having divine visions. While the Battlestar Galactica The community of supporters is divided on making this Godhead a tangible force in the universe, most supporters do not realize that God has almost been introduced at the end of season 1.
The two -part end of season 1 “Kobol’s Last Greaming” was an exhibition shop where the Kobol fleet discovered and hopefully it would point the way to the ground. Meanwhile, power tensions and battles arise between President Roslin and Commander Adama, the latter of which is shot unexpectedly by Boomer after successfully destroying Cylon Basestar. This Battlestar Galactica Episode had a little bit of everything, but producers almost included Baltar recognized Jimi Hendrix’s song and discovered God’s character that would have been played by Dirk Benedict.
Needless to say, it would have been bold Battlestar Galactica To introduce a tangible god in season 1, and the Showrunner Ronald Moore always liked to take such large narrative swings. Why, then, did we not see the character of God Benedict talking to Baltar? In short, the Syfy Executive, Mark Stern, believed that the whole thing sounded Hokey, and Moore agreed, eventually breaking this plot from a point out of “Kobol’s Last Greaaming” altogether.
For once, we are pleased to intervene network because it is arguable that such a presentation to God would have ruined the rest of the show. That is because the things that Moore moved unhappy from the end of season 1 are things that Battlestar Galactica Fans hated in later seasons, including the random use of Jimi Hendrix’s song and the final revelation of the series that God was real. Grace Save the show by then was that it was popular enough that these pieces of “Hokey” stories telling were not enough to sink the show, and even a landing that failed to end a series was not enough to destroy our joint impression of the show.
But imagine is first season Battlestar Galactica ended with a character having a heart-to-heart with a literal God after jamming out to Jimi Hendrix. Honestly, “Hokey” is probably too generous of a description for this bonkers idea. It was bad enough to accept characters hearing Hendrix in later seasons, especially after the end of the series confirmed that it would not be born for many millennia. And it is arguable that the confirmation of the existence of God would throw all future stories out of whack because fans would have to argue if even a free will exist or if everything happens (AHEM) by his command.
Fortunately for us all, Battlestar Galactica He caught away on this wild season 1 idea and did not torture us with disclosures about God or Hendrix until much later. Those later plot points became some of the weakest aspects of the entire series, and we are grateful that they didn’t appear earlier and ruin the show’s chance of renovation. If that had happened, fans would likely begin to appeal to higher power to bring this innovative sci-fi Series ago.
And you know what that would mean: a lot From a very specific fan mail for Dirk Benedict.
