After nine months, the cosmos NASA Butch Wilmore and Sunny Williams finally returned to the ground.
Their SpaceX capsule has made a quick and fiery re -attention to the Earth’s atmosphere before four parachutes opened to deliver them to a soft splash off the Florida coast.
The pod of dolphins circled crafts.
After the recovery ship pulled it out of the water, the astronauts changed and waved when they were assisted from the hatch, together with the crew of the astronaut Nick Hig and the astronaut Alexander Garbunov.
“The crew works great,” Steve Steich, a NASA commercial program manager said.
This leads to the end of the mission, which was to last only eight days.
It was sharply extended after the spacecraft Butch and Sunny used to go to the international space station affected by technical problems.
“It is amazing to have a Crew 9 House, just a great landing,” said Joel Montalbana, Deputy Administrator, NASA Space Operations Mission.
Thanks to the astronauts for stability and flexibility, he said that SpaceX was a “great partner”.
The journey home took 17 hours.
The astronauts were assisted by stretchers, which is a common practice after doing so long in a weightless setting.
They are checked by a medical group and then reunite with their families.
“The biggest is to see friends and family and the people they expected to spend Christmas,” said Helen Charman, the first astronaut in the UK.
“All these family celebrations, birthdays and other events in which they thought they would participate – now, suddenly, they may catch up with a little lost time.”
Butch and Sunny’s saga began in June 2024.
They participated in the first crew of Starliner spacecraft, developed by Aerospace Company Boeing.
But the capsule moved several technical problems while traveling to the space station, and was considered too risky to take the astronauts home.
Starliner returned to the ground safely in early September, but that meant that the couple needed a new trip to return.
So NASA chose the following planned flight: the SpaceX capsule that arrived in the ISS in late September.
It flew with two astronauts instead of four, leaving two places to return the botch and the Sunny.
The only catch was in this planned six -month mission, continuing the location of the astronauts so far.
NASA’s couple perceived her long stay in space.
They conducted many experiments on the orbit laboratory and conducted space procuses, and Sunny struck a record for the woman, which conducted the most outside the space station. And for Christmas, a team dressed in Santa’s hats and the northern deer – sending a festive message to Christmas they originally planned to spend at home.
And despite the fact that the astronauts are described as “rich”, they have never been.
Throughout their mission, there have always been space ships attached to the space station to get them – and the rest are on board – a house when an emergency took place.
Now the astronauts have come home, they will soon be taken to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, where they are checked by medical experts.
Long -term missions in space bring a fee to the body, astronauts lose bone density and suffer from muscle loss. Also affects circulation, and fluid displacement can also affect vision.
This may take a long time to make the body back to normal, so the couples will be provided with a wide exercise, if their bodies re -adapt to life with gravity.
British astronaut Tim Peak said it might take some time to rearrange.
“Your body feels great, feels like a holiday,” he said BBC.
“Your heart has a light time, muscles and bones spend easy time. You swim around the space station in this beautiful zero gravity setting.
“But you have to go in exercise mode. Because you remain in shape in space not for the space itself, but in order when you go back to the punitive gravitational setting of the Earth. Those first two days ago on the ground can really be punished.”
In an interview on Butch and Sunny, they stated that they were well prepared for their longer than expected – but there were things they expected when they returned home.
Speaking in front of CBS last month, Sunny Williams said, “I look forward to seeing my family, my dogs and jumping into the ocean. It will be very nice – return to the ground and feel the earth.”
