Northern Macedonia started a week of mourning

Thousands of people protested in the Northern Macedonian city of Kokani, demanding justice and actions against corruption after the night club fire killed 59 people, many of whom are teenagers.

“Nobody should die like that,” the boy said in the BBC. “Those children, they had a future, they had talents.”

Pulse’s nightclub was stuffed with fans who looked at DNK, a popular hip-hop band when sparks from Flares obviously installed a ceiling patch.

About 20 people were detained for interrogations for the disaster, including the owner of the nightclub and some former government ministers.

Many in Kokani believe that corruption has allowed an improvised venue to work with insufficient security.

The relatives of the children who are still missing are queued outside the hospital to give DNA samples to help identify.

Kokani, a city of about 25,000 people, lies about 100 km (60 miles) east of the capital, Skopje.

More than 160 people were injured in the blast, including 45 victims of very serious injuries. Many were taken to the hospital in neighboring Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and Turkey for the treatment of a specialist.

At a protest, an uncle of a 19-year-old man who died said that “these scenes should never be repeated.”

“When there was a war here, it was not so bad. So many young people were killed.”

After a long standing, the crowd began to chant in silence: “We ask for justice!”

Mourning lit candles, hugged and cried, and wrote reports of condolences in the central square.

A group of teenagers is aimed at the bar, breaking Windows and buying it, believing that it belongs to the Pulse Club owner.

The deadly fire started around 2:30 local time (1:30 GMT) on Sunday and quickly spread when the ceiling was made of fuel material, said Interior Minister Pence Toskovsky.

He said there was “reason to suspicion that there is bribery and corruption” related to fire.

At the time, there were 500 people at the venue, which exceeded the capacity for 250 tickets sold, he said.

Officials say the club’s license was obtained illegally, and the venue was converted the carpet whose only emergency exit was blocked at the time.

There were only two fire extinguishers, and no fire alarm and rain system, said the Ljupco Kocevski State Prosecutor.

A civil group in Northern Macedonia called on people across the country to gather in city centers on Tuesday.
