Melora Hardin only fond memories of her time on the A toilet on the prairie Set Work with Series Director Michael Landon.
“Michael Landon made everyone feel safe,” said Hardin, 57, Fox News Digital In an interview announced on Saturday, March 15, adding that she had been working “for a long time already” in an exhibition business before being cast in Prairie.
“He trusted us, and we trusted him,” he said of Landon’s relationship with the other “steppe” children. “He was defensive of us. And I think that’s one of the most important lessons I learned early (in Hollywood) – surround yourself with the people who make you feel safe. “
The office heard alum for the series when she was just 9, and returned when she was 13 to portray a character called Belinda, a pupil of Matthew LabyorteuxAlbert Ingalls’ character. According to Hardin, Landon, who directed the series and also starred as Patriarch Charles “Pa” Ingalls, was “so warm” and “working great with children.” (Landon, who died in 1991, produced the series and wrote several chapters.)
“I’ve always said that acting and making films and TV is one of the biggest team sports around. And I think Michael Landon was my first example of that, ”continued Hardin. “I learned from him right away. And he felt amazing that around people who made you feel safe to be a fool in front, to fail in front. As a performer, especially that young, he felt good not to feel constantly judged or challenged. “
He added, “It’s about working with great collaborators and not tolerating holes. He had no holes on a set. And I think that’s extremely important. If you feel safe, then you can do a great job. ”He explained,“ He really knew how to make us feel comfortable. He would let us do our thing. He was not an intervention director. It was very joyful. “
Hardin told the outlet, by this point in her career, that she had already “worked with people who were not as nice” as Landon, noting, “many times I would make a film or something, and I would be the only (child) in the room. I would be the only one in the classroom with the set teacher. “
But working on Little House on the Prairie, Hardin said that the children’s actors had “had a school on the set, and that it is so fun to have other children at school with you, working with you.”
He added, “It was such a joy to have other children when you had to be in class with them and then work with them. That was joyful. We would also play games. It was a very fun way to be a child, to be a child actor. It was certainly a highlight. “
The original toilet on the Prairie TV series, based on Laura Ingalls WilderBooks of the same name, running between 1974 and 1984. The Series also star Melissa Gilbert, Karen Grassle and Melissa Sue Anderson Like the rest of the Pioneer Ingalls family.
“He had a long -lasting relationship with his crew and surrounded people who really trusted them,” said Hardin. “So he was ungodly. He was just joyful. I never felt stressed. He may (work behind the scenes), but I never felt it as a child. He seemed to have a great time … it seemed everyone smiling in my world as a young child. “
