United Nations assistance agencies were sent to the United States asking them to have “anti -American” beliefs or affiliations.
Among the 36 questions in the form sent by the US Management and Budget (OMB) and the BBC is a question of whether they have communism.
Some of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world have received a questionnaire, including the UN refugee agency and the Red Cross International Committee.
The Trump administration launched the cost of the US government, headed by billionaire Elon Musk and closed most of its foreign aid.
UN groups fear that the OMB movement is a sign that the United States plans to abandon humanitarian work – or even the UN itself at all.
The United States has left the World Health Organization on the first day of President Donald Trump.
And this week, Secretary of State Mark Rubio announced that the vast majority of the International Development Agency (USAID) has been stopped.
Surveys indicate this Most Americans believe the country exceeds the cost by foreign aid.
The US spends lower % of its GDP to help than European countries, but from the huge economy still provide 40 % global humanitarian financing
Many of the UN assistance agencies, which were directed to the form, receive funding not only from USAID, but also directly from the US government.
One of the questions asks: “” You can confirm that your organization does not work with the essence related to communist, socialist or totalitarian parties, or any party that supports anti -American beliefs? “
The other asks agencies to confirm that they do not receive any funding from China, Russia, Cuba or Iran – these countries may not be the best members of Washington, but, like all 193 UN member states, they fund large humanitarian agencies.
Other questions asking for assistance agencies to provide no project that include Dei elements (diversity, justice and inclusion) or what is associated with climate change.
This may be uncomfortable for agencies such as UNICEF, which supports equal access to girls’ education, or a world -wide food program that tries to prevent hunger by maintaining drought affected by more elastic climates.
Professor Carl Blanchett, from the Geneva University Center for Humanitarian Studies, believes that the assistance agencies have been created for failure: “The decision has already been made. It is very likely that the United States will stop involvement in any UN system.
“This is a multilateral compared to America, the first is two ends of the spectrum.”
Aids working on complex humanitarian operations are more stupid.
“It doesn’t matter what you were asked, ‘You stopped beating a baby, yes or no? “,” said one of the disappointed assistance workers.
UN human rights have already decided not to fill the form.
“Given that they were mostly” yes “/” no “with a very limited development opportunity, and that some questions are not applied to the UN, we were unable to answer directly to the online Antacles,” the BBC press secretary said.
“Instead, we submitted the e -mail answers to the questions where we could answer.”
Some issues also reflect the economic interests of the Trump administration.
There is a request for projects that can affect “US supplies efforts or safe minerals of rare land”.
The BBC appealed to OMB and US missions in the United Nations in New York and Geneva for comment.
