Deep down, many Star Trek fans want to have their own Galaxy’s Edge … a way to step into the world of immersing their favorite heroes “Strange New Worlds” and Starfleet. However, one iconic actor of Deep space nine highlight the fact that producers make Re -create one of the most cruel alien planets of this show on Earth, causing the cast to suffer even more than their characters. The planet in question is “Cardassia IV,” and after filming scenes for Première Season 2 DS9 “The Homecoming,” actor Kira Nerys, Nana’s visitor, noted that their Soledad Canyon shooting location “was the perfect Cardassia IV, because it was as hell.”
In the Deep space nine Episode “The Homecoming,” Kira sets out to save a -bajoran co -camp from a namous evil prison camp on Cardassia IV. The Cardassians are the equivalent of the show with the Nazis … between that and their reputation in the universe for being vicious prisoners, the viewers understood that Kira’s work had broken out with this unconventional rescue mission. In real life, however, shooting at Soledad Canyon meant that Nana’s visitor and other actors had to watch for more practical threats such as snakes and bees, all in dealing with the type of heat that would be ashamed of Bajor’s fire caves.
Ironically enough, the heat was the perpetuate Thing producers were worried about shooting cardassia IV scenes. They were actually much more concerned about the cast and the crew get bug bites, which is why they recommended that everyone brought some sea breeze (this removes the painful injection of a bite). But while producers warn of bug bites, bee injections, and snake bites, the heat ended in tormenting Nana’s visitor and leading actor O’Brien Colm Meaney.
As she remembers, “Colm and I were sick of our stomachs.” This went beyond some kind of stomach fault … in the words of visitors, “We were seriously wondering whether we were going to heat prostitution.” This shot the scenes of Cardassia IV completely boring, but the visitor kept a sense of humor for the whole thing, later insisting that Solodad Canyon was a perfect shooting location because he emulates the hellish nature of Cardassia himself.
When shooting those cardassia IV scenes for “the Homecoming,” the actors who hated the heat hoped to never see Canyon’s soledad again. Unfortunately, they did not wish: because producers loved how the Canyon looked at the screen (it really is is In one of the more shocking locations of the show), they ended up shooting scenes there again for the Season 4 episode “Indiscrretion,” episode Season 5 “The Ship,” and Season 6 episode “Rocks and Shoals.”
In those chapters, Soledad Canyon was used to portray other locations rather than Cardassia IV. Unfortunately for the actors involved, Soledad Canyon still retained the heat that made it the perfect location for a cardassian prison camp (in the universe, these alien Really love the heat). Making things worse is the fact that the heat is actually worse in subsequent chapters than it was for “The Homecoming,” making this one of the most hellish locations in Star Trek’s story shooting history.
If you still wish you could step into a world Trek StarThis story of Canyon’s soledad transformation to Cardassia IV could otherwise convince you. He had the kind of extreme heat that cardasses love and human beings completely hate him. Also, let’s be honest … who can enjoy Raktajino’s hot pipes when the temperatures arise?
