Varun Chakravarthy, Mystery Finger of India, has opened about his aspiration to play the National Cricket team at Test Cricket. However, Varun Chakravarthy admitted that his bowling style does not adapt to the longest format, adding that he cannot dump the long necessary spells in the red ball cricket.
Varun played a crucial role in the victory of the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy. Mostly lost the first two games in the tournament. Varun ended the tournament as the main wicker head of India. The 33 -year -old took nine doctors in three games with an impressive average of 15.11 and a 4.53 economy rate.
Following the triumph of the Champions Trophy of 2025, India’s next challenge is a series of five tests in England. The Indian side has been struggling in the test cricket. They suffered a Whitwash defeat in New Zealand at home, followed by a loss of 1-3 against Australia in the border-Gavaskar trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
India could not qualify for the Final of the World Test Championship (WTC) for the first time. The team aims to bring their winning boost to the England series and rebound again to the red ball cricket. The team selection is still an important discussion point, especially since this will be its first series in the new WTC cycle.
Speaking in a podcast with Gobinath, Varun Chakravarthy admitted that he is interested in the test cricket. Varun revealed that the test cricket demands the bowls to deliver 20-30 a day, but can only manage a maximum of 10-15 due to his style.
“I (I have an interest in the test cricket), but my bowling style does not fit the test cricket,” while talking in a podcast with Gobinath on his YouTube channel, Varun said.
“Mine is almost like a medium pace. In the test cricket, you must constantly dump 20-30. I can’t do it in my bowling. Since I make a quick blow, the maximum I can bowl is 10-15 more than it does not adapt to the red ball. At the moment I focus on 20 points and 50 cricket of white balls, “he added.
Varun Chakravarthy stated that he does not regret moving from rhythm bowls to turn. Crick Tamil Nadu started as a goalkeeper before moving to quick bowling during college. However, an injury forced him to take the turn, which helped him reach the Indian team.
Varun mentioned that Tamil Nadu’s launches favor spinners about the pacers. He stated that the state’s pacers are rare, but their change in the vault was beneficial. He also said that even Ravichandran Ashwin made a similar transition.
“That’s why I’m here. I would have been stuck there if I had started the rhythm. There are so many peacers. In addition, it does not swing to Tamil Nadu doctors. They are spin doctors. So you can’t see a lot of quick bowl of Tamil Nadu, “said Varun.
“It’s very rare. There are Balaji and Natararajan, but there are many pacers in other states. I am happy to leave quick bowls. Even (Ravichandran) Ashwin became spinning after leaving fast bowling. So I’m happy.”
