Delhi capitals (DC)formerly known as the Delhi Darevils, have had a story stored in the Premier League India (IPL)with numerous captains over the years. From the opening season of 2008 to the present, the franchise has seen a combination of Indian and international stars taking on the leadership role.
The following is a complete list of all the captains who have led Delhi Capitals in the IPL:
1. VIRENDER SEHWAG (2008-2012)
Virender Sehwag was the first captain of the Delhi franchise, leading the team from the inaugural season in 2008 to 2012. During his term, Sehwag caught in 52 games, winning 28 and losing 24, without links. Its percentage of 53.84% wins is still the highest among all the Captains of Delhi. Under Sehwag’s leadership, the team reached the semifinals in both 2008 and 2009.
2. Gautam Gambhir (2010)
Gambhir Gautam He took over the captaincy for a brief period in 2010, leading the team in 25 games. He won 12 and lost 13, with a percentage of 48%wins. Although Gambhir is more famous with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he led the team to two IPL titles, his career with Delhi was remarkable because of his battle capacity.
3. James Hopes (2011)
James Hopes, a complete Australian, captured Delhi for three games in 2011, but failed to win a victory, losing two games. Its brief stage was marked by the team’s general struggles this season.
4. Mahela Jayawardene (2012-2013)
Mahela Jayawardene, the legend of Sri Lanka, took over the captaincy by 18 games between 2012 and 2013. He won six games, lost 11 and tied -with a percentage of 33.3%wins. Jayawardene’s leadership was marked by its strategic capacity and its ability to fight, although the team’s performance was inconsistent during its term.
5. Ross Taylor (2012)
Ross Taylor, Batsman in New Zealand, led Delhi for two games in 2012, but did not win a victory, losing a game. Its brief captaincy was part of a transition phase for the team.

6. Kevin Pietersen (2014)
Kevin Pietersen, the former captain of England, led Delhi for 11 games in 2014. However, his term was marked by important struggles, with a single victory and ten losses. Despite its international success, Piersen’s Captaincy IPL was unsuccessful.
7. Dinesh Karthik (2014)
Dineh Karthik received the captaincy for six games in 2014. However, his term was marked by limited success, with only two wins and four losses. Karthik is known for his wick maintenance skills and has played in various franchises in the IPL, including KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
8. JP Duminy (2015)

9. Zaheer Khan (2016-2017)
Zaheer Khan, the Indian fast bowling, took over the captaincy by 23 games between 2016 and 2017. He won ten games and lost 13, with a percentage of 43.5%victories. Khan’s leadership was marked by his experience and strategic bowling changes.
10. Karun Nair (2017)
Karun Nair led Delhi for three games in 2017, winning -two and lost one. His brief stage was part of a season in which the team struggled to find consistency.
11. Shreyas Iyer (2018-2021)
Shreyas Iyer captured Delhi for 41 games between 2018 and 2021. He won 21 games, lost 18 and tied two, with a percentage of 51.2%victories. Iyer’s leadership was essential to transforming the team into a competitive force, bringing them to the finals in 2020.
12. RISABH Pant (2021-2024)
Rishabh Pant took over the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer in 2021 and led the team for 30 games until 2023. He won 16 games, lost 13 and removed one, with a percentage of 53.33%wins. The aggressive style and Batting of Batting of Panting made him a popular leader, although he faced challenges due to injury and the dynamics of the team.
13. David Warner (2023)
David Warner captured Delhi’s capitals in the 2023 season after Ris Habh Pant could not lead him due to injury. Warner is a prolific Batsman and has led teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the past. Above all, he won 3000 runs as Captain IPL during his term with Delhi.
14. Axar Patel (2025)
Axar Patel has been announced as Captain of the IPL 2025 seasonBy marking a new chapter for Delhi Capitals. Patel, known for his comprehensive skills, will aim to lead the team to their first IPL title. Previously he ran the team for a game in 2024 when Pant was suspended.
The capitals still have to win a title, despite the end of 2020 under the leadership of Iyer. With Patel at the helm, the team awaits a success IPL 2025 seasonSupported by a balanced template and strong support for fans.
