Old Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has again taken a strong position against the old cricketers of England Nasser hussain and Michael Atherton by his claims that India had an unfair advantage during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The English duo, along with several cricketers such as Jos Buttler, David Miller and Rassie van der DussenHe had proposed concerns about India by playing all his games in one place: Dubai, while other teams had to travel between various locations.
The critic is derived from the hybrid model adopted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) refused to send India to Pakistan Because of security concerns. Under this agreement, all Indian matches, including the semifinals and the final, were played in Dubai.
Hussain and Atherton suggested that avoiding travel and playing in family conditions gave India a significant advantage over other teams. However, Gavaskar dismissed these allegations as basic allegations, saying that the CPI had announced this decision months before the tournament, and if anyone had a problem with this, they should have spoken before the event began, not after India won the title.
“There will be the carpens who talked about the advantage that India had only in one place and did not have to travel between games. However, this was decided by the CPI long before the tournament began and any negative comment on this should have happened before the first ball in the tournament was launched.” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.
In a forceful response, Gavaskar wondered why England, who has welcomed numerous CPI tournaments in the past, could not take advantage of his own advantage for decades. He emphasized that the advantage at home alone does not win tournaments, but the performance, preparation and execution of the team under pressure they really care about. Gavaskar said that while the players of England complained quickly, they had no problem playing various CPI events at home, but failed to deliver until they finally won the 2019 World Hate Cup.
“If” home advantage “was the only reason India won, why England, where most of the complaints came from, to gain ICC trophies before 2019 despite hosting the tournament several times?” Concluded Gavaskar.
