Comedy covers a number of questions from food, identity, immigration, family and politics

Reflecting on the hit Netflix based on your own life, there are two things that come to mind for the Palestinian comedian mo to America.

Honor and hurt.

“It is very difficult to talk about this without breaking up at some point,” he says BBC Newsbeat.

It is a star of a semi -autobiographical show called MO, plays the role of mo Najar.

A character is a Palestinian refugee who learns to adapt to his new world when he seeks to gain US citizenship by moving a complex immigration process – everything trying to unite his cultures and languages.

The creation of the show is so closely related to his life was “very taxing” with a “large number of emotions”.

“I am extremely proud of this. I put my soul in it and still hurt to do it,” Mo says.

There was another task to move – when this second season is set.

The last episode, which reflects the visit of Mo in his family house on the western shore, was set on October 6, 2023.

This the day before the armed Palestinian group Hamas started an unprecedented cross -border attack on Israel, killed about 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages.

This was caused by a massive Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to the Ministry of Health Hamas.

The avoidance of October 7 in the storyline was “very intentional”, says mo.

According to him, after all, the show is “based on comedy” and episodes were installed after the attack on “plot” and “storylines” and “characters”.

“You did not really track them, emotions,” says mo.

“I never lose hope”

Mo says he wanted to keep in mind the “bigger context” and it focuses on October 7, and its consequences “almost hint that it just started.”

“It may not be away from the truth,” he says, referring to Long history of the conflict.

According to him, there was also a practical consideration, due to the time between the pictures and the release of more than a year.

“It looked like a terrible area to write about something, and then it would happen.

“And then everything you wrote and compiled in the series may be insignificant.”

Mo says the episode that covers the journey to the west shore of Israel was emotional

The show was widely had positive receptionWith the finale emotional for fans – and mo.

He monitors the character’s journey with his family to Western Israeli Western shore and their life experience.

From his point of view, he shows the complex everyday Palestinians who may face, for example, being subjected to more close control in the checkpoints controlled by Israeli soldiers.

The character can also shown that they are torn.

The western shore – the land between Israel and the Jordan River – is estimated at three million Palestinians and half a million Jewish settlers.

Together with Eastern Jerusalem and Gaza, this is part of what is widely known as the occupied Palestinian territories.

Israel occupied these areas in the War in the Middle East 1967 and built settlements that are considered illegal under international legislation. Israel disputes it.

Palestinians claim that the districts for the future independent state and want to remove all calculations.

“I just have so many calls from people just completely in the Themebles after viewing the last episode and how they needed to watch,” Mo says.

He adds that “not only the Palestinians” turned to him.

Mo says the final episode – initially 60 minutes – was “almost like we filmed the movie” before it was edited up to 39 minutes.

He says he wanted to cover the “major blows”, which included how difficult it is to enter and live as a Palestinian.

“Immediately, you’re not on vacation,” he says. “You really are really.”

Mo speaks

Mo feels that in television and the movie, the Palestinians were usually limited, which means more pressure on his shoulders.

“There is a lot (pressure) from the supporters … More on the boundaries of what I have to say, not to say – both Palestinian and Neo -Anestin,” he says.

“You really have to put on the blinds and stay focused on telling the story I know and that I survived at first.”

Mo says he cannot “get away” from being considered as a Palestinian press, recognizing himself “as public property at this moment.”

“I think everyone just needs to manage my expectations. But I’m not going to shy away,” he says.

“Those who agree to me or disagree with me … It is important to continue the dialogue and talk.”

The ceasefire agreement in Gaza gave some hope that there could be the completion of the fighting, but it also felt delicate with the concern that the deal could collapse.

Mo says he “always hopes”, everything can be recovered.

‘I never lose hope.

“If you do it, then it becomes really, a very sad place when you are deprived of hope,” he says.
