Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that Gautam Gambhir played a key role in conforming as a leader long before he became Captain T20i in India. Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Gautam Gambhir prepared for the captaincy during his period with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL.
Remembering his days of IPL with the KKR, Suryakumar shared that the current Indian coach constantly guided him when managing the responsibilities both in the field and out. The star batter said he learned a lot from the strong tactical mind and tactical view of the ancient KKR.
Suryakumar Yadav told the “India Today conclave”: “When I was with KKR, I was always talking about leadership, how to take the pitch, what to get off the field, maybe a better captain. I have learned a lot from him; he is a very smart man.”
The Indian pattern has been enjoying a dream like the Captain, winning 17 of 22 games in the format, but still, he is founded and humble, for which Suryakumar gave credit to his captains Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir.
Suryakumar further explained: “Look, I learned from my captain only when I played a franchise cricket with Rohit Bhai. And before that, I had played with Gauti Bhai for 4 years. I have spent a lot of time with them. Therefore, I have learned so many qualities of the two. How to be aggressive on the floor and at the same time being humble is also very important.”
The Indian pattern believes to balance aggression in the countryside and be supportive and live a normal life off the field. Suryakumar said that he is always made available to teammates, ensuring open communication and understanding his mentality.
By keeping engaged during practice and interactions, it creates confidence, preparing players to manage pressure situations safely. Suryakumar also opened on the difference between the approaches of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma as leader.
The star batter mentioned that Gambhir was an aggressive leader on the pitch, but he remained calm, while Rohit is instinctive in the field and deeply involved in team activities off the field. Suryakumar said he learned from Rohit how to connect with players.
Suryakumar signed saying, “He must have seen Gauti Bhai on the floor. He is always aggressive. He is always relaxed on the floor. And Rohit Bhai changes as soon as he takes the bat. Rohit Bhai is very instinctive on the ground.
I have seen it outside the pitch when it is in the team room. It is the most involved in team activities. Meet the players. Therefore, I have taken this quality. “”
Above all, Suryakumar will look at the action when Mumbai Indian (MI) assumes the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 23 at IPL 2025.
