A goal from the second half of Ollie Watkins against his former team turned out to be the difference, as Aston Villa won a very necessary Premier League victory over Brentford.
Villa won 1-0 winners at the GTECH community stadium, due to the 49-minute courtesy of Watkins, to give it by Unai Emery only a second league victory in eight games.
Morgan Rogers saw that a goal scored out of play when Emery’s men decidedly defended to see the tie and pick up three important points.
The result transfers to the seventh, a point behind Brighton and Chelsea.
For Brentford, the result was only his second defeat in six games and leaves Thomas Frank’s team at 12th place.

Brentford started brighter and could have advanced after six minutes if it were not for the last ditch of Yoane Tielemans, while Yoane Wissa prepared to shoot after John McGinn’s error.
In what turned out to be an open first half, Tyrone Mings may have done a little more than one effort from the free lack, but the defender’s side volleyball was hit directly in the arms of a grateful Mark Flekken.
Tielemans then removed another Flekken stop before the Belgian header returned to the goal by his own bar by Ethan Pinnock.
After the first half endless, it took only three minutes from the second to break the deadline. Watkins grabbed the ball to the left of Villa before cutting inside and triggered a fierce strike that stood in the lower corner by a slight deviation.

Second afterwards, Watkins found himself in an almost identical position, but this time he shot the ball through the box to the next Rogers who fell home.
But after a VAR control, the goal was ruled out against Watkins.
The game had suddenly exploded in life. Wissa threw a header just above the bar, while Axel Disasi twice denied Kevin Schade with important blocks.
At 70 minutes, Keaane Lewis-Potter had the best Brentford opportunity when he stepped on the post with a low car from the edge of the box.

Watkins could have put the tie beyond the hosts when he ran clearly with five minutes from the remaining 90, but the man in England went for a chipboard finish that landed directly in Flekken’s arms.
In the end, the young lady would not be expensive. Villa, and Disasi, in particular, defended themselves well to preserve leadership and give visitors three points.
Emery’s side will enter his second layer of the Midna Set Champions League, full of confidence.
