Star Boston Celtics Derrick White provided a cautionary story of never omitting a dentist’s appointment.
In the second quarter of the Celtics match against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, March 6, White, 30, took a elbow to the surface of the 76ers’ Kelly oubre. White immediately grabbed his mouth and grabbed urgently capturing some debris from court.
The debris, as it happened, was White’s own teeth.
“It’s not a pretty scene,” White by correspondents after the game. “Thankfully, I immediately covered my mouth.”
Seren Celtics explained that the four teeth at its highest row are associated with “Bridge, I think that’s what the dentist’s people call.”
After grabbing the teeth, White had a decision to make.
“Fortunately they were right there,” he said. “I picked them up, we went to the back and was trying to argue how I was going to go back. I had a little glue and put the mouth on and we were good to go. “
White added, “After the glue and the mouth, I realized, ‘What is the worst that could happen as long as I didn’t pull the mouth out?’ Go back out there and keep the mouth piece in. That’s kinda how I thought about it. “
The bridge, White explained, was a “temporary” solution for some dental work he had been kicking down the road.
“I was supposed to go in probably as two weeks ago,” said White. “But I caught pushing him away to get my permanent.”
White was joking, “I’m going to go tomorrow.”
When asked if he could now wear a mouthpiece full time, White said he would “consider it” but call it “unlikely.”
White played a total of 24 minutes on Thursday night, with 12 points, 6 assisting and 3 rebound.
After the game, White fellow players did not have sympathy with his dental drama.
“It’s hard, he has a target on his head,” Celtics Center Hatch grain At NBC Sports Boston During an interview on the court. “I didn’t see him. I didn’t realize that was happening, but then I saw him back and had some sort of mouth guard or something in. Apparently he was supposed to go to the dentist two weeks ago and miss that appointment. “
Then Kornet, 29, looked straight into the camera and said, “Kids, that’s why you make sure you make those dentist appointments, because you might get an elbow in your face and lose your teeth.”
The Celtics return to action on Saturday, March 8, when they host the Los Angeles Lakers.
