Several people were killed in South Sudan after the UN’s attempt to evacuate members of the National Army, said the UN.
One of the crew members died when a UN helicopter was shot dead, a statement from his mission in South Sudan, UniMs. It adds that the wounded South Sudanese general and several other troops were also killed during an evacuation attempt in the Upper Nile.
The UN said the attack on his helicopter “could be a war crime.”
Later, South Sudan’s President Salva Kieir said the second helicopter was able to fly after the attack, just to break the ground, killing everyone on board. But UNIMS said both of his planes landed safely in the milk.
Twenty -seven South Sudan soldiers were killed in total, Information Minister Michael Macui quotes Reuters.
Weeks in the Upper Nile were threatened with the already delicate peaceful deal between President Kiram and Vice President Riek Machar.
In 2013, the gap between the couple caused a five -year civil war, during which 400,000 people were killed and 2.5 million forced from their homes.
A peace agreement was signed in 2018, but the situation has been rich since then.
Fighting in the Upper Nile is ongoing between the Armed Forces and the White Army, the ethnic police, which was in alliance with Murne during the war.
According to the White and the South Sudan Army, the unims evacuate the wounded troops from the conflict zone.
The head of Unims Nicholas HE.
“We also regret the murder of those we tried to get, especially when assurances were received in a safe passage.”
President Kieir said the general general who died as a result of the attack was Gen. Mayor Duck, who ruled the forces located in Novir, the region in Upper Nile.
Along with the fighting, a number of arrests caused concern that South Sudan could see the return to the war.
A number of allies of Machara, including the Minister of Oil and the High -ranking Army General, were detained earlier this week.
After the attack on Friday, Kir urged the nation to “remain calm”.
“I said again that our country will not return to the war. Let no one pass the law. The government I lead to this crisis,” he said.
South Sudan is the world’s latest nation, after leaving Sudan in 2011.
