Denmark’s postal service stop delivering letters

The State Postnord Postnord Postnord should finish all deliveries of letters at the end of 2025, citing a 90% decrease in letters since the beginning of the century.

The decision brings to the end of 400 years of company service. 1500 Denmark’s mailboxes will disappear from early June.

Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen sought to assure the Danes, saying that letters could still be sent and received across the country. One of the companies said she was ready to take supplies.

Postal services across Europe are fighting a decrease in letters. The German Deutsche Post said on Thursday that it ranks 8,000 jobs in what it called a “socially responsible way”.

Deutsche Post has 187,000 employees, and employees said they were afraid of more cuts.

Denmark had a universal postal service for 400 years by the end of 2023, but since digital mail services have been seized, the use of letters fell sharply.

Public Services send communications through the digital message app or other platforms, and Postnord Denamary says the letters market is no longer profitable.

The number of letters decreased from the beginning of the century from 1.4 billion to 110 million last year.

The decision will affect the elderly. Although 95% of the Danes use the digital service, it is reported that 271,000 people still count on your physical mail.

Danish MP Pel Dragsted accused the privatization of moving and complained that this step would be a shortage of people living in remote areas.

Postnord said about 1500 of their work will lose their work force at 4600.

The company stated to switch its attention to deliveries and that any postage stamps purchased this year or in 2024 can be returned for a limited period in 2026.

Chief Executive Director Kim Pedersen said the Danes are becoming more digital, and the decrease in the volume of letters became so pronounced that it fell by 30%last year.

Postnord also works in Sweden. It is 40% of Danish and 60% of Swedish.
