The arrest of the Army General from the main opposition of the South Sudan-is a “serious violation” of the peaceful transaction that ended with a five-year civil war, said the BBC opposition spokesman.
Gabriel Lam’s DUP-General was arrested earlier this week, together with other high-ranking movement officials on the release of People’s Sudan in opposition (SPLM -io).
The Allies were detained by Vice President Riek Machara, whose gap with President Salva Kieir caused a devastating war in 2013.
On Thursday morning, the spokesman of Machara said SPLMO did not know how their officials are and where they were held.
“We are doing our best to avoid escalation to the situation, but we need our partners in peace to demonstrate political will to make sure that this country will not return to the war again,” Bbc Newsday said Both Baluang.
President Kieir insisted that South Sudan would not return to the war, said government’s press -secretary Michael Macway to journalists in the Juba capital on Wednesday.
Makuay added that opposition figures were arrested because they were “contrary to the law”.
South Sudan is the world’s latest nation, after leaving Sudan in 2011. But only two years later, a civil war broke out when Kira fired the entire office and accused Murry of inciting a unsuccessful coup.
Five years later, when 400,000 lives lost, and 2.5 million people forced their homes, a peaceful deal was agreed in 2018.
But it has been rich since then.
General Lam is responsible for the military wing of the opposition party, which should still be integrated into the army. He was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Another ally of Machara, Minister of Oil Put Khaol, was accepted by security forces in the middle of the night.
Machara’s house in the capital, Juba, was surrounded by troops from the South Sudan army overnight before they were then refused.
All other high -ranking military officials related to Murry were located under house arrest, the BBC understands.
The arrests follow that the White Army police had confiscated a strategic city in Upper Nile, close to the Ethiopian border, after clashes with government troops.
The White Army fought with Machar during the Civil War.
Some in the army, loyal to Kira, have accused Machara allies of supporting the rebels.
The press -secretary of Maccana said the BBC that the current fighting between the White Army and the Security Forces would “be avoided” if the leadership of the National Army had fulfilled a peace agreement.
The UN and the African Union have warned that violence in this area could potentially spread.
Terr Monang, Head of the Peace and Propaganda Center founded in Juba, said Reuters that fighting in this area could threaten a peace treaty.
“The country will most likely go to the war if the situation is not managed by the country’s top leadership,” he said.
The country has never held elections – they should take place in 2026 after many years of delay.
