North Korea stopped tourists from visiting, only a few weeks after the first Western tourists for the first time in five years entered the country.
North Korea sealed at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020 and began scale restrictions back in the middle of 2023.
It opened for Russian visitors in 2024, but only last month Western tourists were allowed into the remote eastern city of Rasan.
However, several travel companies are currently saying that trips to a full -fledged country have been canceled before the notice. Pyongyang did not give the reasons for a sudden stop.
“Just got news from our Korean partners that Rasan is closed for everyone. We will inform you,” Facebook, based on China, which specializes in North Korean tours, said on Wednesday.
Young pioneer tours and tours of Koryo were among other agencies that announced the suspension.
Those who plan excursions in April and May should refrain from reserving flights until we receive more information, “said a young pioneer tourist on Facebook.
On February 20, the first Western tourists began to arrive in Rasan, the city appointed north as a special economic zone to experience a new financial policy.
Tour operators reported the BBC that visitors’ movements were even more limited than in previous trips – they had less opportunities to wander the streets and talk to the locals.
Telephone signals and internet access were also unavailable in the hermit.
One excursion leader said he suspects that Rosson was chosen because the area is relatively placed and simple in managing.
Earlier this week, Koryo Tours said he was accepting Pyongyang’s international applications for the first time in five years. The event is scheduled for April 6, but it is now unclear whether they can be processed.
According to media reports, North Korea saw about 350,000 foreign tourists, of which 90% were Chinese.
