US President Donald says he received a letter from Volodzimir Zelensky, agreeing to “come to the negotiating table” to conclude a peace treaty in Ukraine.
“I am grateful that he sent this letter,” Trump said, referring to a joint Congress session in Washington.
A report on the social media reported that Zelensky said he was ready to work under Trump’s “strong leadership” to achieve lasting peace.
The statements indicate the cooling of the tensions between the leaders after their fiery meeting in the Oval office last week.
In his address to Congress, Trump said he had received a “important letter” from Zelensky earlier on Thursday before reading what he said, there were excerpts.
Parts he read, used really the same language as on A statement posted by Zelensky earlier on Tuesday.
“The letter states that Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring the lasting peace closer. No one wants peace more than the Ukrainians,” Trump said.
Continuing to read from the fact that, he said, Zelensky’s letter, Trump said: “My team and I are ready to work under the strong leadership of President Trump to get peace that lasts.”
Trump also said Zelensky told him ready for Sign minerals with rare land from the US.
Ukraine does not yet comment on the letter.
The US president also stated that “serious discussions” were conducted with Russia, and he “received strong signals that they were ready for peace.”
Trump did not show when negotiations were taking place or he personally participated in them.
“It’s time to end this meaningless war. If you want to end the wars, you have to talk on both sides,” he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Zelensky described the White House parsing with Trump “regret” after the United States announced a pause in the military assistance of Kiev.
Zelensky said that “it was time to do everything right” after Trump accused him of not ready to come to the dining talks.
The Ukrainian leader also outlined the first stages of how the war could end.
Last week, a meeting of the Oval Office between Zelensky and the United States officials was completed when two parties signed a transaction that would allow the United States to access the rare land minerals in Ukraine.
