Shakur Stevenson believes that a struggle between the indisputable lightweight heavy heavy champion Dmitry Bivol and the required WBA David Benavidez is now one of the “biggest fights” in boxing.
When Bivol (24-1, 12 kos) scored Artur Beeterbiev on Saturday night with a majority decision of 12 rounds in Riyad, he inherited his Mandatory WBC Benavidez (30-0, 24 kos), which has many problems due to his high production of punch, power, chin, youth and fear.
“Benavidez vs. Bivol is up there with the best fights that can be done in boxing sports,” said Shakur Stevenson to Ring Magazine About a struggle he feels is one of the best right now.
It is not a surprise that Bivol’s promoters in Matchroom focus on other fights for him, and if the Boxing Council may try to force his hand, the belt will be drift. In this way, Bivol can pursue easier struggles that they will pay well.
Turki Alralikh will decide who faces Bivol, but promoter Eddie Hearn has a great influence on him for his friendship. If Hearn decides that Bivol jumps Benavidez forever, he can do it by sacrificing the WBC belt or ignorant.
The WBC has allowed popular fighters to keep in the belts without ordering them to defend the strap. Bivol is popular enough to prevent its required WBC and fight whoever you want, whether Beterbiev, Canelo Alvarez or Callum Smith. These are the three great ones that Hearn recently mentioned as fighters who are interested in Bivol Fighting below.
What makes it even less likely that Benavidez has the opportunity to fight Bivol is his past success that caused him. He revealed in an interview that he turned on with a 20 -punch outle and approached him. Benavidez says he was told after the round that he would not be allowed to re -provoke Bivol.
