Pete Davidson Says He’s Grateful For His Latest Movie Role

Pete Davidson opens up about his latest role and the opportunity to play the villain in the upcoming film Dog Man.

“He’s a really fun, loud, layered character,” Davidson, 31, said in an interview with CBS on Sunday, January 26, referring to Dog Man’s forever nemesis, Petey the Cat. “I don’t get many opportunities to stretch like that.”

The comedian – who has been out of the public eye recently after checking into a health center for mental health treatment in June 2024 – he went on to share how grateful he is to get a shot at playing the bad guy in writer and illustrator Dav Pilkey’s beloved Dog Man books.

“This is the best arc I’ve ever had,” the comedian continued. “Usually I’m in a movie for, like, nine minutes, and then I’m shot in the face, so it was nice to have a full (arc).”

Davidson was referring to his brief appearance in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. In the film, his character, Blackguard, is killed within the first 10 minutes.

The SNL alum’s latest character is a big departure from his other roles in films like Bodies Bodies Bodies a The Dirtalthough no stranger to the children’s film genre – the actor also lent his voice to 2019 The Angry Birds Movie 2.

“I’m a huge fan of Dav Pilkey,” Davidson told CBS in the same interview. “I grew up reading it all Captain Underpants books. My mother got them for me. All the young children in my family, they all read Dog Manthey are obsessed with Dog Man. And then around the time I started to notice that, we got the offer.”

In a recent interview with In a Magazine announced in December 2024, Davidson opened up about what he hopes he will be known for – especially after dating a string of Hollywood A-listers including Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale a Kim Kardashian.

“I want to be known for doing good work,” he said at the time. “I only want to be out there when it’s movies, stand-up, charity or business ventures. That’s when I want to be seen. I don’t want to be this ff—ing loser who only dates people. That’s not who I am.”

In the same interview, Davidson went on to admit that he believes he is “oversaturated” in the media.

“In The Sopranosthere’s this line from Tony that says, ‘You never feel like you’ve finally come into something? When the good times were over?’ That’s how I feel about show business and being famous. It’s over.”
