Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, has withdrawn her name from consideration for a seat in the Senate.
She stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) this month, fueling speculation that she could replace outgoing Sen. Marco Rubio, the Florida Republican whom Trump nominated for secretary of state.
But in a message on X, she said she had ruled herself out of consideration “after an incredible amount of thought, consideration and encouragement from many”.
She said she wished Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis the best of luck in selecting a replacement to serve out the remainder of Rubio’s six-year term, which ends in 2026.
In her message to X on Saturday, Lara Trump said, “I couldn’t be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during one of the most high-stakes elections of our lifetime, and I am truly humbled by the incredible support I have received from the people of our country and here at large. Florida State.”
She said she has a big announcement in January, without giving further details.
Lara Trump was elected co-chair of the RNC in March, cementing her father-in-law’s influence over the party during his presidential campaign.
Along with her husband, Trump’s son, Eric, and his older brother, Don Jr., she became one of the top surrogates for the Republican nominee in the run-up to the election.
