Andy Cruz surprises Omar Salcido, Keyshawn Davis and Shakur Stevenson Look On

Andy Cruz (5-0, 2 KOs) says he approached Keyshawn Davis and Shakur Stevenson in a “weird” meeting after his 10-round unanimous decision victory over Omar Salcido (20-2, 14 KOs) at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Saturday night.

A delighted look from Keyshawn

Shakur was impressed with lightweight contender Cruz’s victory, saying he had looked “awesome”. Keyshawn looked shocked, like he’d seen a ghost, and you could tell by looking at him that Cruz’s performance tonight had intimidated him, giving him flashbacks to his win over him at the 2020 Olympics.

If there was any chance of Keyshawn fighting Cruz anytime soon, it’s gone with his performance tonight because he’s even better than he was five years ago when he schooled him in the Olympics. Cruz’s trainer, Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis, is turning him into a more offensive fighter who sits more on shots. In the tenth round, Cruz had Salcido badly hurt and forced to hold on. This had never happened to him before.

The scores were 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92 for Cruz.

Bozy’s praise

“He would have been out if Andy hadn’t stopped. He hit him with good shots but he got a break at times,” trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis told Fighthypearguing that Andy Cruz would have knocked out Omar Salcido if he hadn’t stopped after hitting him with good shots.

“You saw when he roped him a couple of times. He looked and then went after him. Once you do that, you’ve got to finish him off. He’s taking it well. I gave him an A,” Bozy said about Cruz’s performance. “He won every round, and he did it against a puncher.

“Each time is progressing. He fought a guy who was 20-1. That guy wasn’t wrinkled at all. I could get punched and fight back. So Andy is right there. I leave him until the end of this year for the title dispute. Whoever has the tiles, that’s who we want.

The “strange” encounter.

“I see Andy giving trouble to anybody in the division. I don’t care who it is. Anybody. By the end of 2025 (Cruz is fighting for a world title),” Ennis said.

“Goal accomplished and I’ll still be at the top,” said Andy Cruz. “They were acting a little weird, but Keyshawn is my son, and Shakur was like, ‘What’s up, too,'” Cruz said of him as he approached Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn David after their win over Salido .
