Florida man arrested after online threat to assassinate Trump; Secret Service Investigation

The Secret Service is investigating after a Florida man was arrested in West Palm Beach and accused of calling for the assassination of the president. Donald Trump on Facebook.

West Palm Beach local Shannon Depararo Atkins, 46, was arrested after allegedly threatening the president’s life, West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo confirmed during a press conference on Saturday.

Atkins is charged with criminal intimidation, drug possession and smuggling contraband into the county, according to jail records.

The advice was called FBI National Threat Operations Center Atkins reportedly made violent threats against the president on Facebook late Sunday.

Palem Beach started working on Monday and found “alarming” positions, reports Araujo.

Some of the messages were: “Lincoln, JFK, Reagan, Martin Luther King And Trump – unfortunately, one is still alive “;” Bullets, please. Jesus Save America “;” I got banned from x because I said, “I hope someone kills him. We haven’t had a kill in years.”

The department received probable cause and began surveillance, arresting Atkins outside one of his homes on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

According to Araujo, officers found three bags of cocaine in Atkins’ pocket.

During the interview, he admitted to the writing Facebook posts, But he said he was joking, authorities said.

“People, this is not a joke. Nothing like this is a joke,” Araujo said during a press conference.

The Secret Service has been notified and is reviewing the case to determine if federal charges will be filed, the department said.

“The US Secret Service does not comment on matters related to protected intelligence,” the agency wrote in an email to Fox News Digital on Saturday. “What we can say is that the Secret Service investigates all threats against our guards.”

Authorities confirmed that the FBI was also involved in the investigation.

In today’s climate, Araujo said people can’t make a threat even a joke.

“We have incident after incident, example after example, of these threats becoming real — and we take that very seriously,” he said. “We anticipated something – you never know. I do know we have probable cause, we arrested Mr. Atkins, and he will have to answer to the charges.”

According to jail records, Atkins was given a $5,000 bond on the drug charges, but Bond was denied bond on the threats against Trump.
