Tilak Varma on Saturday (January 25) starred with the bat as India won a thriller against England in the second T20i at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
First, England posted a competitive total of 165/9 in the 20 overs. The visitors went 90 for 5 at one stage before being rescued by the lower order. The likes of Brydon Carse (31) and Jamie Smith (22) played a hand in the end to power their side to a total of 150 more.
Captain Jos Buttler again scored for his side, scoring 45 runs off 30 balls with the help of 2 fours and 3 sixes. For India, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel picked up 2 doctors each.
In response, India got off to a flying start. The batting hero of the first T20i, Abhishek Sharma started his knock by hitting Jofra Archer for three fours in the first over, but was dismissed by Mark Wood in the second over. India lost doctors in Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav inside the PowerPlay as well.

With the likes of Hardik Pandya and Dhruv Jurel also failing to fire, India soon found themselves at 78 for 5. However, Tilak Varma stood firm at one end and stayed till the end to bring the hosts at home.
He and Washington Sundar revived India’s chances by adding 38 runs for the sixth wicket. The stand ended with Sundar’s departure for 26. Axar Patel also failed to impress with the bat but did not affect Tilak Varma.
In the end, the equation was 6 runs from the last over and it took Tilak Varma just two deliveries to reach the winning runs. And after the young batsman’s match-winning knock, captain Suryakumar Yadav found a puzzling gesture for him.
As Tilak Varma walked off the ground, Suryakumar Yadav bowed to him and the young batsman also made sure to return with a similar gesture. The two teammates shook hands before hugging each other in a bewildering moment.
