Andy McDowell struggles with a painful neuromuscular disorder.

“I have piriformis syndrome, so it’s a muscle that pinches on my sciatic nerve, and it was knocking my leg down,” McDowell shared on The Drew Barrymore Show.

Piriformis syndrome occurs when your Piriformis muscle compresses your sciatic nerve and causes inflammation. This can cause pain or numbness in the buttock and down the back of the leg. It can happen on one side of your body or both, according to Cleveland Clinic.

The 66-year-old actress added that she exercises daily to tone down any pain.

“I got to work my tiny bottom and my thighs. I got to work my bottom and work my hips. I just do it every day … it doesn’t hurt anymore … it’s a miracle,” McDowell said.
