Former England captain Michael Vaughan has praised Arshdeep Singh after he became India’s leading run-getter in T20I cricket during the five-match T20I series opener against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22 .
Arshdeep Singh finished with impressive figures of 2/17 in his share of 4 overs to help India restrict England to 132 in their 20 overs in the first T20I. During his spell, the left-arm pacer surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal’s figure of 96 wickets and became India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 97 scalps.
The 25-year-old has hardly missed any of India’s T20I matches since making his debut in 2022 in the shortest format of the game. After his latest milestone, Michael Vaughan praised Arshdeep Singh’s ability to spin the ball both ways, saying that he has now become a reliable leader of the bowling attack.

The Indian pacer’s T20I career has seen a rapid rise, and he is just three wickets away from the important milestone of 100 wickets, he can achieve this milestone in the second T20I match against England in Chennai on January 25.
The cricket pundit believes this is just the beginning of what could be a record-breaking journey for Arshdeep Singh. Vaughan predicted that Arshdeep could set a massive record by the time his career ends, which may prove difficult to beat in the future.
Michael Vaughan was quoted by Cricbuzz: “He’s a class act, he’s got that ability to move the ball both ways. He seems to relish the pressure of leading the attack and being that trendsetter. He’s getting close to a hundred (gates), but it will end up with a lot more.”
He added: “He’s going to get a bit of it. I think he’s going to get a lot of it. (If) he’s going to play that much T20 cricket for the next few years, he’s going to get a number on the board when he hangs up his boots which can be quite difficult to catch.”

Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan said that Arshdeep Singh’s consistency in T20I cricket has been nothing short of remarkable. The legendary bowler said the Punjab lad’s ability to make an impact with the new ball has only improved with time and will continue with every game.
The former World Cup winner has pointed out that Arshdeep has taken every opportunity to shine, especially when senior bowlers tend to take a break in the T20I format of the game. His consistent performances have not only made him a key player for the men in blue but also boosted their confidence.
Zaheer Khan signed off saying, “In the Indian system, the T20I format has been the preferred format where senior bowlers are rested, and the only one who has played consistently has been Arshdeep. He has grabbed the opportunity with both hands . The best bearer of the format will surely give him confidence in the future.”
