Former Pakistan national cricket team player Basit Ali has criticized Indian national cricket team batsman Shreyas Iyer for his failure in the current Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Jammu and Kashmir .
He said that the batsman should only play white ball cricket if he does not realize the necessity of the situation.
Mumbai had a poor start with the bat in the ongoing match against Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
The team, which was filled with superstars Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and others, got it all for just 120 runs.
Shreyas Iyer in particular took notice of Basit Ali. The Mumbai batsman could not get going as he managed just 11 runs from seven balls. He was looking to attack even as wickets fell at the other end as he tried to hit boundaries.
Shreyas Iyer batted at the strike rate of 157.14, hit a four and a six before getting out. Mumbai were 42 runs for six, and then the batsman’s wicket left them reeling at 47/7. Fortunately, Shardul Thakur hit a half-century and took the team to a total of 120 runs.
Basit Ali hit out at Shreyas Iyer for playing attacking cricket, saying the batsmen came out in front of him and he attacked, which was not good. He said he should play red ball cricket as a red ball. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
“Iyer made 11 runs off 7 balls. It’s a four-day game. Three batsmen were dismissed in front of you. He plays white-ball cricket in this format. If he’s playing red-ball cricket, play it like red-ball cricket . That’s my simple advice. We’ll see what they do in the second inning.”
Basit Ali spoke about the poor performances of the Indian national cricket team batsmen in the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. He said it’s a cause for concern that players on the team aren’t making runs. He elaborated:
“Rohit Sharma came out, Jaiswal came out, Gill came out, Iyer came out. It’s four-day cricket. When so many players play, Iyer has to score a hundred, Rohit has to score a hundred, Jaiswal, Gill. , even Pujara plays, will everyone score?”
In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Rohit Sharma struggled to get going. He hit three runs off 19 balls while Jaiswal scored just four runs off eight deliveries. Shubman Gill managed to score just four runs for Punjab while Rishabh Pant, playing for Delhi, managed just one run.
