The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has addressed recent media reports suggesting that the The Indian cricket team could refuse to wear jerseys with the name of the host nation, Pakistanfor the Champions Trophy 2025. These reports had sparked widespread speculation and concern about the Indian team’s position in the upcoming tournament.
In particular, reports suggested that the BCCI was unwilling to reveal the name of the host nation due to the ongoing political tensions between the two countries. This caused a strong response from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)who strongly criticized the BCCI’s stance. The PCB official had accused the BCCI of intertwining politics with sport, stating that such actions would only harm the spirit of the game and create unnecessary divisions within the cricketing community.
Now, the Indian cricket board has clarified its stand on the matter. On Wednesday, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia explained the board’s position on the shirt guidelines for the upcoming event. In a chat with Cricbuzz, Saikia confirmed that the BCCI would fully comply with the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament regulations.
Saikia specifically emphasized that the Indian team would adhere to all ICC protocols regarding the official logo, which includes the host nation’s name as part of the team jersey design. He further explained that the BCCI’s decision was in line with the directive of the international governing body and that the board had no intention of deviating from these established guidelines.
“We will follow whatever the ICC guidelines are. We will follow the ICC directive,” Saikia said.
