Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his preferred playing XI for the first T20I, with a special mention to Nitish Kumar Reddythe inclusion While Ashwin made some standard picks for the team, he specifically addressed the potential selection dilemma between Nitish and Washington Sundar.

Ashwin explained that the key factor in picking Reddy over Sundar was the conditions at Eden Gardens, where dew is likely to play a role. According to Ashwin, Reddy’s skills would suit the conditions better, making him a more productive option for the afternoon game.

“Game XI is quite simple. There could be a showdown between Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar, but at Eden, with the dew likely to play a big role, India could opt for Nitish.” Ashwin shared on his YouTube channel.

While India have been dominant in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh and South Africa, Ashwin warned that this series will be a much tougher challenge. Ashwin was clear that the series against Bangladesh should not be seen as a true reflection of India’s strength.

“Bangladesh were a weak side, while South Africa fielded a second-pace attack, although their batting was excellent. We played against Bangladesh, but they are no match for India. I think this series was a mismatch. I don’t think this series should be considered a true reflection of our strength.” Ashwin added.

Ashwin highlighted that this new era of fearless cricket in India will face its biggest test yet against a high-quality England side. The upcoming series is expected to challenge India’s prowess and provide a more accurate measure of their T20I prowess under the leadership of Suryakumar.
